Paper 2 Activity 3
Principal Julio Asturias
Centro Escolar El Roble
Guatemala, Guatemala
Mr. Asturias:
I hope you and your activities are going great. I’m writing to ask your support in a proposal I have. Since everybody at school is talking about the new expansion in the students club range, I’m writing to propose a new club for our school. I want to propose a fight club. I'm not talking about a literal fight club, but rather a debate club. I think that there are many topics that the students will want to discus with others students or with some teachers. The students will have the opportunity to express themselves and maybe they can make some changes in the school.
Many fights in the school start because there are two students who disagree with something. The students start with verbal aggression and then the physical aggression. This club can avoid many fights at the school because in this club you can discuss any topic or situation. The violence in the school will decrease and in return you will have ordered and well-structured discussions. There are many students that have a lot of ideas and their own opinions of something but they need to kwon how to express in the best way without having to resort to violence with other student who disagree. This club will not only decrease the violence but also will teach to the students how to do a good debate. The students will know how to prepare their arguments and counter arguments of the topic under discussion. I think that this is important for the students because they will be professionals and they need to know how to express and argument their opinions, and how to counter argument the opinions of others without been disrespectful with the other person or persons. This club can teach to the students some education about how to discus with other persons and how to get to an agreement or solution with another person without violence and resentment. Also the students will know how to accept when they are wrong and they will accept a best idea or opinion. Your school will have compressible and educated students.
I hope you consider my request. After all, I think a fight club is going to be beneficial for everybody in our school. We have a long way and we still can develop it. For this reason, I hope you write me back telling me your answer and giving back all the things we need to register the club in our school. Hoping this will not cause you any trouble.
Sincerely,
Carlos Danilo De Leon C.

Paper 2 Activity 2
Dear Luis:
Hello Luis, how are you doing? I hope that you are fine. It has been long time since we last talked. You never finished telling me what happened with the problem with your girlfriend. Could you solve it? We need to get together to catch up. The reason why I’m writing you is because your sister told my sister that you have serious problems with the IB program because your best friend was diagnosed cancer. I know that it is a hard situation that also affects your IB scores but you don´t need to drop out from everything. I can give you some tips to handle this situation and to start your first year of the IB program.
You need to understand that the cancer of your friend is something that is out of your hands. I understand that you are in depression; this depression affects your classes. The cancer can be controlled, so you need to be positive and cheerful because your friend needs it. You need to give support to your friend and I think that your friend needs you with a good mood in this days to handle the cancer. Your mood can have an influence in your friend, accordingly if you have a positive or negative mood.
In your first year of the IB program my first advice is that you need to select the subjects in superior level that you find easier because the subjects in superior level are more difficult than the ones in the other level. You can choose subjects in standard level that you don’t like or you are not very good. One important thing is that you need to realize that you will spend a lot of time studying and enormous amounts of hours working. Don´t freak out of this, you only need to organize yourself, and you need to do a schedule. With your schedule you will finish all your projects and works in time and you will have time to study for the exams. The key of this is to be organized because the projects and laboratories are not actually very difficult, you only need to have the time and dedication to do them. The benefit of doing this is that you will feel comfortable delivering everything on time without any concern or pressure. But the most important is that your will prepared to the university because you will develop the ability to organize yourself to do the works in the university and also in your life.
I hope that this advice can help you in your IB program; if you take this advice I guarantee you that the IB will be easier. And I hope that your friend continues to be better. I am sure that you will know how to support him.
Sincerely yours,
Danilo De Leon Coosemans

Me first advice is that you need to select the subjects in superior level that you make more easier because the subjects in superior level are more difficult than the other levels. If you have made your choice you can make some changes in your program subjects. This is an important decision because you can choose subjects in superior level that you don’t like or you are not much good, and other subjects that you like and you are good in a normal level or medium for example. This will give you an idea of what you will go to study at the university because you will know in what you are good.

Dear Luis:
Hello Luis, how are you going? I hope that you are fine. It has been long time since we last talked. You don´t finish too tell me, what happen with the problem with your girlfriend? You can solve it? We need to get together to catch up. The reason why I’m writing you is because your sister told to my sister that you have serious problem with the IB program, to be more specific, with your TOK´s essay. Do you know that I am in the same program? I can give you some advices with your essay, I have been worked in my essay 7 moths so I have some tips that I can shared with you.
Theory of Knowledge is a requirement that you need to course to get the diploma, but this material make you think using all the classes you have in your school. You will know the role of the knowledge in the world, the influence and the importance that knowledge have in our life. I´m toll you this because you need to realize how much important is TOK in the education. The TOK’s essay is and essay about a specific title that the IB give to you, you can choose one. Whatever you choose, each title raises generic cross-disciplinary questions about knowledge, so you need to write to answer the question.
To answer this question in a good way and to get an A in the score, you will need to do some requirements. First of all in your essay you need to talk about one or two ways of knowledge, there are only four; sense perception, reason, emotion and language. The most of the time the title give to you the way of knowledge, but it is important to you know it. Second you need to response the title question with an others question of knowledge. This questions need to be related with the title because the development of these questions will help you answer the question of the tittle, is good to use at least four of this question of knowledge. Then when you will development the questions you need to support your ideas with examples and your examples need to be focus in one of the areas of knowledge. There are 6 areas of knowledge; mathematics, natural sciences, human sciences, history, the arts and ethics. It is recommendable to use at least 4 areas of knowledge, because this is the way that you will prove that you know. And other way to support your ideas is making citations of an investigation or book that support what you are saying, always using some areas of knowledge. Finally the conclusion, you need conclude with the answer of the question using what you write in the beginning.
So that are the advices that I know about TOK’s essay, I hope to help you in something and if you need more help send me your essay and I will see what I can do.
Sincerely you:
Danilo De Leon.

Coban

Travelling can make you change your thinking and do not think you have to go far to do so.
Traveling is an amazing experience that the persons can do because we can meet beautiful places and cultures that we don´t know. I think that the best age of travelling is when we are young because we can learn from different persons and different places. And we are used to living with our traditions and people, but it is good to travel out. All we know is that the outside is different and we can learn a lot of things of these different places, but we don´t need to go so far away to meet beautiful places and different kinds of persons. That’s my case when I traveled to Coban during my vacations.
I live in Guatemala and I traveled to Coban; it´s a little trip but it had effects in me. Initially I really did not want to go because I had some birthday parties of my friends. I was upset because my parents forced me to go and I was thinking that it would be a boring trip. But when I was in Coban, I saw the landscapes that Coban has and changed my mind. I had visited Coban as a child but I did not remember anything, I noted that Guatemala has beautiful places to visit and I didn’t really know it.
One of the good effects that travelling to Coban caused on me was that I met a different persons, and what I mean is that the persons were from different cultures and had different ways to have fun. I met a family that has a big collection of “bonsai”; they use these bonsais like a hobby and always to have a family time to share. This family always cares about the environmental issues and they separate their trash in three different kinds organic waste, plastics and glass. They take advantages of organic waste using it as fertilizer, so they don´t waste their money on fertilizer. The other thing that travelling to Coban caused a good effect in me was the beautiful places that Coban has and not all the people know about them. We visited the most common touristic places on Coban; Semuc Champey and Las Grutas de Lanquin. Semuc Champey is an incredibly beautiful natural limestone bridge resting on top of a river, with little waterfalls and pools of crystal clear water that are excellent for swimming. And Las Grutas de Lanquin is a large cave with excellent formations and a river that flows under it. I thought the beautiful landscapes happened only in other countries and that Guatemala had beautiful scenery, but by visiting these two places changed my mind and I learned that Guatemala also has good things.
Traveling can teach you so many things and you can meet others kinds of persons, cultures and beautiful sceneries, and we can learn about them. It´s your choice to know more about the world around you; do not shut yourself in a social group with a closed mind. You can visit beautiful places without going out of your country, and you can learn many things of your country if you travel it.
